The world's wakin' up!

Thank you all so much for your continued enthusiasm and engagement with the international Wake Up movement. Things are growing (and going!) so quickly that it has been hard to keep up with all the events, emails, blog-posts, and website development..... The young monastics bow deeply in gratitude to all of you for your support and patience ;).

Here’s a little lowdown of what’s been goin’ on...

Following hot on the trail of the UK Wake Up Retreat (17-19 Oct), and Sister Mai's visit to Belgium, the Belgium Wake Up groups organized an excellent weekend in Antwerp, Belgium (24-26 Oct), supported by Brother Man and Brother Tri Tang. Then we had the Francophone retreat at Plum Village, France (1-7 Nov), with dedicated young-people’s dharma discussion groups in each hamlet – a first! Many young monastics went to the new European Institute of Applied Buddhism in Waldbroel, Germany (12-17 Nov) for the inaugural Public Talk and Day of Mindfulness led by Thay and the fourfold sangha. We young ones (including many from the German TTT sangha) met together for noodles and cookies in the gymnasium of the local kindergarten – and laughed about how refreshing it was to see each other off facebook!

mission statement
Wake Up: Young Buddhists and non-Buddhists for a Healthy and Compassionate Society

Wake Up is a community of young Dharma practitioners who want to help their society which is overloaded with intolerance, discrimination, craving, anger and despair.

Their practice is the Five Mindfulness Trainings, ethical guidelines offered by the Buddha; the most concrete practice of true love and compassion, clearly showing the way towards a life in harmony with each other and with the Earth. If you are a young practitioner you are urged to join the Wake Up movement in your country. We may feel anger and frustration when we see the environmental degradation caused by our society and we feel despair because we don’t seem to be strong enough individually to change our way of life. Wake Up offers us a way to pool our energy and act in synchrony. Let us get together and form a Wake Up group in our own town. Our collective practice will surely bring transformation and healing to individuals and society. Let us get in touch with young practitioners from Plum Village, both monastic and lay, to get more support and information.
